Why You Should Back Up Your Website Files
Boy have I learned from the mistakes of others. Recently a server on which one of my sites was being hosted was hacked by a malicious hacker who damaged or destroyed every site on the server. While mine was one of the sites affected, I was luckier than most. Many who had not backed up their sites lost everything. I hadn't lost much, just a script update and a customized script that was later reloaded. So what was the lesson to be learned from this? Back up your site often. Download copies and place them on individual cds for further back ups. At least one disk per site. Make at least three copies. At least one daily backup and two weekly backups. If your site is a high traffic, high use site, then make daily backups. While hackers are a number one reason to make backups, other reasons could be: server errors, and hardware failures. While both are not as common as hacker attacks and DOS attacks, they both can happen and do. If you are wondering why I share this information it is so that my fellow webmasters will not have the same problems I and others shared, Plus, it's just common sense.
